OCR: GIS PROGRESS CHARTED Revenue from GIS software topped $563 million in 1995, according to Daratech, a Cambridge, Mass ,, research firm that tracks the market. This represents a 13.7% increase over 1994 figures. Daratech attributes much of this activity to PC-based GIS sales, which climbed 25%. Growth in this market, says Daratech will be fueled by more sophisticated links between GIS systems and commercial databases, as well as component-based technology, such as OLE, that embeds mapping capabilities into business software.
